Newsletter: Autumn 1st half term

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back!

We hope you all had a fantastic summer holiday and are ready for the new schoolyear. As a team we would like to welcome all our new families to Priestthorpe and we look forward to getting to know you all. Dawn Noutch, our Parental Involvement Worker, will be spending some time in our provision over the next few weeks, so she will be available during some drop off and pick up times to introduce herself and offer any support that you might need. We will be starting our learning by looking at the traditional story of The Gingerbread man. We will then focus on the stories of Elmer, along with talking about ‘ourselves’ and looking for signs of Autumn. As always, we will see where the children’s interests take us.

Suitable Clothing

We are thrilled with the new school uniform and the children throughout school have all come back dressed extremely smartly. Can we politely request that ALL your child’s school uniform is clearly labelled and that they are wearing shoes which have a Velcro fastening and NOT shoe laces. It is also essential that your child wears a suitable WATERPROOF coat to school EVERY DAY! Thank you again to those parents who have sent a pair of wellington boots for their child which can be left at school. Can we please ask that our new children bring a pair and could the parents of the children who already have a pair at school from last year, check that their wellingtons still fit. Hopefully the sun will shine for a while longer, but we do take the children out daily even in light rain. We would really appreciate your help with these matters.

Snack/Baking

Thank you to all parent/carers who contributed towards snack/baking last term. Could we politely ask for the £5 HALF TERMLY contribution per child for this half term as soon as possible. For those of you are new to school we provide the children with a wide range of different snacks each week to promote healthy eating and trying different food. We are also lucky to have Mrs Longbottom who comes into school every Friday to bake with the children. You can either pay this money in full to the office or hand it to a member of staff in the provision. Cheques can be made payable to Beckfoot Priestthorpe Primary. If parents would like to pay for the entire year, it will be a total of £30.

Reading

This week we started teaching a daily phonics lesson. This forms the basis of your child learning to read. When we feel they are ready, the children will be issued with a reading book. Miss Hacking will provide further information once the children start this reading process. We will also offer a ‘Reading with your child at home’ session in the next few weeks. Once a date has been finalised we will let you know.

Drop off and pick up times

Can we please ask that all our new parents let us know who will be regularly picking up your child. If someone different is collecting your child then please inform a member of staff when you drop off or please telephone school and inform the office. As a school we have a care of duty to protect all our children, therefore, we will not permit your child to be collected by someone we do not know, even if this is another family member, if we have not been informed beforehand.

Please note that the Reception children can only be permitted through the school playground entrance at 8.40am. If you arrive late please report to the school office. Your children will not be allowed to enter through the Nursery gate. This is due to health and safety reasons as we welcome our Nursery children into school at 8.50am. Arriving at school on time is vital to ensure your child has the best start to their day.

Welcome to the Gruffalo Class
Reminder
If you have any photos of your child celebrating their last birthday please send them into school for us to display on our birthday board.
Please send any completed home-school projects into school so that we can begin to display them.
The games listed will help to consolidate the learning which is taking place in school at present.
The children have all now settled in reception and are enjoying coming to school full time. This half term we will be looking at the story of The Gingerbread Man. Please read the story with your child and talk about it. We will also be looking at the story of Elmer and discussing how we are all the same and different. Please also look at this story with your child.
